Frequent Questions

Is any MOVES training available?

Information about MOVES training is available on our website at:

https://www.epa.gov/moves/moves-training-sessions

Our MOVES courses are designed to be self-taught in periods when no classes are scheduled.  We currently have two different MOVES courses:

  1. Our Basic 2-Day Hands-On Training Course for New MOVES Users (available at https://www.epa.gov/moves/moves-training-sessions#training) provides detailed instruction using MOVES at the National and County scales in both inventory and rates modes, and provides an introduction to using MOVES at project scale and for nonroad emissions.
  1. Our Project Level Training for Quantitative PM Hot-Spot Analyses (https://www.epa.gov/state-and-local-transportation/project-level-training-quantitative-pm-hot-spot-analyses) provides detailed instruction using MOVES at the Project scale to estimate emissions, as well as instruction in using AERMOD (a dispersion model) to estimate pollutant concentrations in the atmosphere as a result of those emissions.

Please note the course materials for the Project Level course are based on MOVES2010b, while the current version of MOVES is MOVES2014a.  The basic methods described in the course slides are the same for both models, but small changes in input file structure between MOVES2010 and MOVES2014 may mean that the input files proved with the course don't work properly with MOVES2014.  We are currently updating the course materials to reflect the change in models, but in the meantime, you can use the slides as is.
